I Heart Huckabees

by @ 6:41 pm. Filed under movie reviews and thoughts

It’s been a while since I’ve seen a truly original film, and this one is no exception.

While the plot and dialogue cover concepts such as monism, nihilism, and existentialism, the film fell just slightly flat of being something more than a light comedy.

It did have a good line, though: “You rock, rock.”

Overall, I’d recommend watching it, as it won’t drive you to turn off the dvd player in disgust and is an entertaining film. Just don’t expect it to be anything groundbreaking.

In general, I think that too many films get the “indie” tag, much like a lot of alternative or indie music became mainstream.

Management has made me Korean

by @ 12:47 pm. Filed under Misc

After 5 years of the Anti-Service initiative, Ruby Tuesday has made the move to SERVICE as our main company focus. It’s good to know that a venerable restaurant chain can still swing wild.
The flipside is that service now means a 175% staffing increase on every shift, which means of course less pay for everyone and even worse service, since a rare few teenage waiters are going to get excited about making 35-40$ on a Friday night shift.
Additionally, to maintain an air of new found political correctness, management has instituted the ‘No-Fire Zone’ to include all restaurant areas. No amount of cocaine sniffing, dry humping, or shitting on the floor will result in termination, ever. The weakest links will be preserved by any means necessary.
In response to these developments, I have decided to become a North Korean country during work. I will not engage in any unilateral discussions w/managment, nor will I release any of my customers from my section w/out signed avadavits of fealty to my national cause. I WILL accept donations of no less than 20% of my total sales, I WILL not allow OSHA inspectors entry to my shoes.

New version of Y is out

by @ 11:52 pm. Filed under Art

If you haven’t read Y yet, it’s a good time to start.

In the summer of 2002, a plague of unknown origin destroys every last sperm, fetus, and fully developed mammal with a Y chromosome - with the exception of amateur escape artist Yorick Brown and his surly male helper monkey Ampersand.

So just suck up.

maybe you don’t like your job
maybe you didn’t get enough sleep
well, nobody likes their job
nobody got enough sleep
maybe you just had
the worst day of your life
but, you know, there’s no escape
and there’s no excuse
so just suck up and be nice

Wasted away again in stripperville

This is bound to be good advice for some readers.

So you got a stripper’s phone number, huh? Called her up and chatted about this and that and had a nice little conversation with her, huh? What’s her name? Cinnamon? Going out with her for lunch on Saturday, eh? Very Nice. Here are a few tips — because dating a stripper is a hazardous affair and the only thing you’re going to get out of this insane ride are bragging rights for the rest of your life. This article is based on information gleaned from my brief stay in Stripperville.

DON’T go see her at her job unless it’s absolutely necessary. A necessity would be getting her condo key so you can go feed her cat. If you get to that point, FYI, you’re now one of her “friends,” and you can wrap up the sexual fantasies you have of her by beating off right on her pillow after you throw the cat some Meow Mix.

spam’s getting out of control

by @ 11:29 pm. Filed under Misc

This stuff is insane. I was too busy for a couple days to read through and verify the spam-catching mailbox. Today I finally did - 700 messages. Zero false positives.

For the people who get two or three spam a day - here’s what you’ve been missing.

Congrads Mike - you should double me by the end of next month.

Well, no NHL this year

by @ 12:59 pm. Filed under Misc

I guess I’ll go against the general “who cares” attitude and admit that I’ll miss hockey this year.

Here’s a link to the story.

Although, if it came back tomorrow, I’d be too annoyed to care.

People have considered hockey “broken” for a long time, primarily because it hasn’t been a high revenue sport compared to NASCAR, Football, Golf, Basketball, Darts, or Billiards, for Christ’s sake.

Why does a sport that has all of the elements for success fail?

Soon Sharon Stone will not equal Basic Instinct for Evil Bastard

I was reflecting on the changes my two rug rats have made to my life and the wonderful changes that Evil Bastard will be facing. Besides the obvious no sleep, less disposalbe income, child locks, and the smell of dirty diapers here are some less obvious ones.
