” On 14 April 1988, the missile frigate Samuel B. Roberts was damaged by a mine in the Persian Gulf. Some 45 years before, Coxswain Samuel B. Roberts was killed when he guided his boat in front of Japanese lines on Guadalcanal in an effort to distract their fire from a rescue party evacuating wounded marines. In between was the destroyer escort Samuel B. Roberts, which on 25 October 1944 sailed into history in the Battle off Samar. (Long post inside for history buffs.) ”

In the process of closing on a house. I figure, it’s about time. I now know more than I ever wanted about things like siding and easements and cross-base concrete foundations. Took us 5 days and 3 offers to get a house at the price point we wanted in the “right” school district.
Anyway, supposed to take posession next month. Will post some pictures after we close on it.
There’s a story on NPR this morning about a cocker spaniel who sucks on frogs found in the backyard to get high.
“Poor Lady was such a nice dog till she became involved in toads. It seemed as if her whole personality changed”. Okay they didn’t say that but that’s the idea. It’s pretty hilarious.
It even gets so bad that the mom becomes an enabler, helping Lady find the frog so she’ll come inside. A tragic story of what happens when a family member faces an addiction, and the coping mechanisms of the remaining family members.

What is Fail2ban?
Fail2ban scans log files like /var/log/pwdfail or /var/log/apache/error_log and bans IP that makes too many password failures. It updates firewall rules to reject the IP address. These rules can be defined by the user. Fail2ban can read multiple log files such as sshd or Apache web server ones.
The husband and I took the kids for a bike ride Saturday. It was beautiful. It was 60 degrees and the leaves were changing colors. We biked into Reston, had lunch, did a few trails and a couple of steep hills.
On the way back home, just before we turned into our developement, a truck coming the opposite direction yelled “ROADKILL!” at us. So not cool. Especially with kids. Luckily they didn’t hear it and probably wouldn’t of understood it.
So Mr. Gas gozzling truck driver - &*%@ ?#!
Of course I thought that in my head. I wouldn’t say that around my kids.
I doubt that this has escaped Zinger’s attention, but one of his perennially favorite authors is running for governor of Texas.
I’ve recently visited Texas and saw a few cars with his campaign sticker on the bumpers. I’d thought that his band had maybe recently played and it was some kind of joke or promo.
Best of luck to him — Texas would definitely be a more interesting place with him at the reigns.
Listened to this guys this morning while working out. It’s funny, last week in Orlando this seemed to be my theme song, since the random shuffle offered this particular song up every morning as I was walking to the convention.

“Grand National are a buzzing little UK band who are releasing their debut album ‘Kicking The National Habit’ on Recall Records in the US in March. Their influences range from post-punk through to baggy - and they do a nice line in breezy, poignant pop - as you can hear on this one.”
(song and summary from http://gbh.tv/mp3/mainpage2.html, since the band’s website seems to be down)
So, I saw some cool tilt-shift photography stuff, then saw some things about faking it with Photoshop, then was watching late night Cartoon Channel, and they were doing some stuff with it.. and decided that I’d give it a try.
What I did is go to live.com and take some screenshots, then stitch them together, then apply some different photoshop filters until I had what I wanted.
