Newsweek fails at internet prognostication.

by @ 11:40 am. Filed under Technology, political perspective

Do our computer pundits lack all common sense? The truth in no online database will replace your daily newspaper, no CD-ROM can take the place of a competent teacher and no computer network will change the way government works.

The Internet? Bah! | Newsweek.com

Anonymous Call Rejection

by @ 11:54 pm. Filed under Misc

So, most people should know that dialing *77 from their phone will turn on ‘Anonymous Call Rejection’, or basically - blocks any calls without valid callerid info. I just discovered that Vonage has enabled it too, so totally turned it on just now.

John Adams

by @ 10:09 pm. Filed under Misc, movie reviews and thoughts

Sadly, I’m going to agree with the Freakonomics blog. I think chosing Paul Giamatti as the actor to portray John Adams is distracting because of his past roles. Still a brilliant choice in TV programming.

Speaking of Bugs.. does anybody else remember this from some… too many years ago?

My productive weekend

by @ 10:56 am. Filed under Misc

So on Sunday I:
- Got my hair cut
- Spread the spring grass treatment on the lawn
- Pulled the motorcycles out of the garage, started them up, and rode them around the block a couple times

- Swept out the garage
- Filled the tires on the motorcycles, bicycles, and truck with air
- Installed a pull-up bar in the gym (it creaks a little when I lift my 200+ lbs on it, but seems sturdy enough)

Still to be done:
- Wash and vacuum the truck
- Wash and wax the motorcycles
- Get the motorcycles current with state inspection
- Donate Steph’s old bicycle to good will/salvation army/thrift store/whoever will take it.

User firmware hacking meets the PowerShot

by @ 11:57 am. Filed under Art

Over the last couple years, we saw some pretty amazing things when users started hacking up their own firmware options for the popular Linksys WRT54G. Free versions such as DD-WRT offered great bandwidth controls, netflow, radius support and many features that would normally require a much more expensive AP/Router to support.

Now some people are taking that same concept and applying it to the popular Canon PowerShot camera line with CHDK.

It’s kind of interesting how the markets for different devices are artificially restricted.

Time for my Bi-Annual Bitch…

by @ 7:48 pm. Filed under Adrienne's Head

It is time for my bi-annual bitch about day light savings time, except I don’t even know what time zone I’m living in right now with 3 kids ages 5 to 2 weeks that it didn’t bother me this time.  I’m screwed up… Q and Four are screwed up… and Asset does whatever she pleases….

SO everyone please have a pleasant night’s sleep for me…. my usual 5 hours is now 3, but I wouldn’t want it any other way.
