More commonly just called a “Romanian AK-47.” It’s more or less similar specs to an AK-47 (7.62 mm, semi-auto, looks like an AKM), has pre-ban features like bayonet lug, pistol grip, high capacity 30-round magazines (I got two with the purchase, but only one is functional — the other, it seems, has a problem with the spring), and threaded muzzle (for add-ons like a flash suppressor for firing blank rounds). the WASR-10 is imported by Century Arms and, due to import restrictions for the model, has some U.S. manufactured parts (like the trigger mechanism) in place of the Romanian ones.

Today I found out about the VFEMI program. It looks pretty interesting, you get to go out to Quantico and take training classes in standard and advanced marksmanship - up to 1000 yards it appears. It looks pretty serious - 7:30AM-4:30PM for two days, but what a great way to learn from the masters.
I’ll probably try to take a class next month.

An interesting/quick article on bullet penetration testing.

Went to a gun show in Bealton, VA on Saturday and picked up one of these:

I also ordered a cheap scope and rings kit for it.
Maybe this pilot still had unresolved playground issues:
When I originally put together my rifle system, I used some cheap Weaver mounts and rings on my Savage to attach my scope. Hey - I figured that I needed more skill then super precise mounting equipment - I would upgrade when my skill increased.
Last time I took my scope off, I noticed that the mounts were wearing away - rounding out the grooves. So - I decided to go ahead and upgrade to a nice Leupold single base mounts and fairly nice rings. Thus began my downfall.
I decided that I wanted new targets - so I took one of the freely available ones from the internet and made some modifications for easier eye relief and higher accuracy target point.
