I looked up the whole german thing. Basically, yeah because there were a lot of dutch/germans in the early times, what it was was a bill to have all legislation in one city/state in both english and german. Even though Franklin spoke fluent German, it’s just one of those things that get warped with some form of thruth through the ages.

Ah, gotcha — don’t feel bad, I’d thought that, too — guess it’s one of those historical “urban legends”.
