It’s officially summer

Today the two things that always mark summer for me happened.

1) I woke up before the alarm clock, felt good, and decided to go for a jog. Where as in the last few years I had headed out for a 3 mile jog, come back, gimped around for the next two weeks, and ultimately gave up – this time I decided to take it slow and easy. I grabbed the wife’s hand weights, cruised out through my neighborhood and to the end of the street, and turned around. Maybe a half mile, but hey – I’m getting old. Maybe I can slowly ramp up and make it a more regular event this way.

2) Head-splitting headaches. It always happens around this time of year and has been diagnosed by doctors in chronological order as: needing glasses, alergies, neck exercises, more glasses, stress, etc. The only thing it hasn’t been diagnosed as is a sinus headache (of whatever cause). Basically it starts with pressure behind my right eye, then on the right side of the back of my neck, then pressure-pain around the right side of my jaw, then my nose starts dripping. I have two options – place a cool cloth/ice over my forehead and resist the urge to beat my skull against the walls for an hour, or take any over the counter sinus headache medication and be better in 15 minutes. Guess what I just bought?

Just thought it was funny how these two yearly events coincided today, this is also
* National holiday of Sweden
* Queensland Day
* South Korean Memorial Day
* National Yo-yo Day – USA
* D-Day landings – Europe

And on the radio, I heard it’s national headache awareness week. Boy, am I aware.
