VMware Communities: Workstation 6.5(.1) and Ubuntu 9.04 …

Up until the most recent set of updates to Jaunty, WS 6.5 took care of itself with respect to modules. However, with the new 2.6.28 kernel, we now have the same problem that we have with Fedora 10: the process for automatically rebuilding modules is broken. The particulars — a segment violation — don’t matter: that’s VMware’s problem to fix. What matters is that some of you might want to be working with Jaunty, and you need the modules to build.

The workaround is the same as for Fedora 10. Build the modules manually. The script that I provided for Fedora 10 works fine for Ubuntu 9.04.
